22 March 2024
Type 2 diabetes was the subject of our first Patient and Public Interest Group (PAPIG) meeting of 2024.
We had fantastic speakers for the virtual meeting who are experts in their field and who covered a range of topics around the condition.
Before discussion got underway Ruth Lang, AWTTC Senior Liaison Manger, gave a round-up of the work AWTTC has been undertaking since the last PAPIG meeting in October.
PAPIG is chaired by Dr Clare Elliott, Senior Scientist and Patient Engagement Lead, who lead the meeting introducing each speaker.
Topics included prevention and remission of type 2 diabetes delivered by Cath Washbrook-Davies, All Wales Dietetic Lead for Diabetes and Dietetic Lead for the All Wales Diabetes Prevention Programme who gave a detailed presentation on the work taking place around Wales to support people living with diabetes.
GP, Dr Sarah Davies, who is the All Wales Lead for Diabetes in Primary Care, presented on a holistic approach to managing type 2 diabetes gave a passionate and detailed talk on identifying, managing and treatments.
The National Strategic Clinical Network for Diabetes was explained by Susan Marszalek, Project Manager for the National Strategic Clinical Network for Diabetes, and how it aims to improve care and outcomes for people in Wales living with diabetes.
Last but by no means least Rob Lee, Chair of the Cardiff and Vale Diabetes UK group, gave a patient perspective as someone living with diabetes and spoke about the importance of involving patients in strategies for addressing diabetes in Wales.
Videos of the presentations are available from our PAPIG meetings web page.
Everyone is welcome to join PAPIG and attend quarterly meetings, including patients and their families, carers, patient organisations and members of the public.
The next meeting will be held online on 22 May 2024 – more details, including a programme and an online registration form, will be available from our PAPIG meetings web page a few weeks before the meeting.
