New medicines advice for NHS Wales

Welsh Government has approved advice from the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) for one medicine.

Everolimus (Votubia) is recommended for use in reducing the size of kidney tumours called renal angiomyolipomas, and brain tumours called subependymal giant cell astrocytomas (SEGA). These tumours are caused by a genetic disorder called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).

Everolimus may be given to:

  • adults whose kidney tumours do not need immediate surgery but who are at risk of complications, and;
  • adults, young people and children with SEGA if surgery is not appropriate for them.

AWTTC’s Patient Access to Medicines Service (PAMS) supports the AWMSG to assess and monitor new medicines in Wales.
