AWMSG publishes 2024–2025 Annual Report Highlighting Key Achievements in Medicines Access, Safety and Optimisation

The All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) has released its 2024–2025 annual report, highlighting its ongoing commitment to enhancing the safe and effective use of medicines in Wales.

The report outlines the year’s key accomplishments, focusing on collaboration, innovation, and patient-centred approaches.

In the annual report, you can read more about all the projects AWMSG has been working on throughout 2024–2025.

The outputs of AWMSG this year include:

  • 5 medicines appraised
  • 77 medicines on the New Treatment Fund
  • 8 medicines optimisation publications published
  • 14 National Prescribing Indicators monitored
  • 4 One Wales recommendations and 7 One Wales reviews

Professor Iolo Doull, Chair of AWMSG, said: “It is with great pleasure that I present the Annual Report of the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) for this reporting year. The past year has brought both progress and challenge, underscoring the continued importance of our work in supporting the safe, effective, and equitable use of medicines across NHS Wales.”

As well as providing an overview of AWMSG’s activities throughout 2024–2025, the report includes:

  • Progress on implementing AWMSG’s five-year strategy, including updates on strategic priorities and actions taken over the past 12 months
  • Examples of meaningful patient and public involvement, demonstrating how lived experience continues to shape AWMSG’s work and decision-making processes
  • Recognition of the contributions made by healthcare professionals across Wales, including their role in consultations, guideline development, and medicine appraisal
  • A summary of ongoing collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, with a shared focus on improving patient outcomes and ensuring timely access to new treatments.
