We would welcome your comments on the draft ‘All Wales guidance for medicine training and education: for support workers in health and social care’ document and the associated Equality and Health Impact Assessment (EqHIA) form.
This guidance has been developed through collaboration with partners in both health and social care and aims to provide a framework for planning and delivering training and education to ensure people are supported to take their medicines safely and effectively.
The intended audience of the guidance includes, but is not limited to, support workers in health and social care, managers, responsible individuals, health boards/trusts, local authorities, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals who are caring for children and adults. The guidance is intended to support registered nurses who delegate medicines administration responsibilities to support workers and can also be used to support unpaid carers, families and third sector organisations to help individuals manage their medicines safely and effectively.
This guidance applies across various care settings including, but not limited to, care home services, secure accommodation services, residential family centre service, domiciliary support services, and hospital and community settings.
Supporting people to take their medicines correctly is an important part of care, helping to optimise health and wellbeing while reducing errors and medicines wastage.
