Abstract | A report identified that although benzodiazepine prescribing in Wales was reducing, “Z” drug prescribing was increasing, and over-all use was significantly higher than North-east England (similar demographically to Wales). To support the recommendations in the report, a resource pack was developed by the All Wales Therapeutics and Toxicology Centre (AWTTC), which was approved by the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) and launched in April 2011. A survey was undertaken in October 2011 to identify how widely the pack had been disseminated, what aspects were most useful and what factors were limiting progress to reduce inappropriate prescribing. The survey identified that while the resource was useful, there needs to be improvements in the way information is distributed. Current financial pressures were also revealed to be affecting progress. |
