WNPU attends the 41st EAPCCT Congress

Representatives from the National Poisons Information Service Cardiff Unit (NPIS Cardiff) attended the 41st Congress of the European Association of Poison Centres and Clinical Toxicologists (EAPCCT), which was held virtually for the first time.

Staff from NPIS Cardiff presented several posters, including one on multiple treatments of clotrimazole during pregnancy, and another on metformin exposures reported to NPIS nationally. Both were presented during virtual congress sessions, with a unique platform for delegates to ask the authors questions whist in breakout rooms on Zoom.

The virtual conference worked well and provided an opportunity for speakers and delegates from all over the world to participate. Many interesting sessions were included in the programme, including discussions and research on pharmacobezoars, caustic ingestions, and ethanol as a co-ingestant in poisoning.

The conference also included a COVID-19 symposium, describing the impact of the virus on poison centres, and the impact on the reporting of poisonings. New perspectives and ideas on the use of artificial intelligence in medicine and toxicological study were also presented.

Abstracts from the conference can be found on the EAPCCT website.
