Updated Inhaler Dashboard to Support Improved Reporting of Inhaler Use in NHS Wales

20 March 2026

AWTTC has released a new version of the Inhaler Decarbonisation dashboard, now available on the SPIRA platform. This update introduces several important changes designed to improve the monitoring of inhaler use across primary care in Wales.

Key updates include:

  • A refined volume measure that more accurately reflects the number of inhalers issued.
  • An updated carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) dataset associated with inhaler use.
  • A new AIR/MART inhaler measure to support monitoring of progress against prescribing recommendations within the AWMSG‑endorsed All Wales adult asthma management and prescribing guideline.

These changes will be incorporated into the monthly NHS Wales inhaler carbon footprint reports over the coming months NHS Wales inhaler carbon footprint reports.

The new inhaler decarbonisation dashboard is accessible to all users within the NHS Wales network and can be found here: New inhaler decarbonisation dashboard.

The old version of the dashboard will remain on SPIRA for the time being.  The 2026/2027 inhaler based National Prescribing Indicators (NPIs) will be using this new dataset for reporting from 1st April 2026.
