In February, NPIS Cardiff attended the “Be a Scientist” event held by Cardiff University.
As in previous years, this event brought together a wide range of scientific disciplines and organisations, offering interactive and hands-on activities for children. Our stall focused on poison prevention, with activities designed to help children “spot the toxic substance” among common household items. The children were highly engaged in identifying potentially harmful products and learning about the hazard symbols and warning labels that should always be checked before use. A short quiz encouraged families to reflect on safe storage of chemicals and medicines, while a brief guide covered basic first aid for exposure to corrosive or toxic substances.
Almost 650 visitors attended the event, actively participating in the activities and leaving some lovely feedback about their experience. Overall, the event was a great success. It was a pleasure to engage with so many enthusiastic young minds and to help raise awareness about poisoning risks and prevention within the community.
