AWTTC hosts AWMSG Industry Open Day

In November 2023, AWTTC hosted an All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) Open Day for our pharmaceutical industry stakeholders. The purpose of the Open Day is to:

• showcase the work of AWMSG and AWTTC;
• let delegates learn first‑hand about latest developments in AWMSG strategy, medicines access and horizon scanning; and
• create a venue to nurture partnerships.

November’s event – the first face-to-face Open Day since 2019 – welcomed 51 pharmaceutical delegates.

In the morning sessions AWTTC delivered a series of collaborative presentations on: building effective engagement between stakeholders; the changing medicines access landscape in Wales; and a reflection on the value of industry involvement to our work and to the NHS in Wales. Guest presenters from the Medicines Value Unit (MVU) outlined how they aim to support NHS Wales to deliver optimal value and outcomes from medicines for all patients in Wales. The Medicines Value Unit was set up in September 2023 and aims to apply a value-based approach to medicines procurement.

Delegate’s questions for the presenters were held until the afternoon’s networking sessions, hosted by AWTTC and the MVU. These questions stimulated useful group discussions and helped to build valuable connections with our industry partners.

As AWTTC faces new challenges and strives to support the AWMSG to deliver its ambitions (outlined in the ‘Strategy for Wales: 2024–2029’), we look forward to working with the MVU, the pharmaceutical industry, patients and healthcare staff to develop a co-ordinated approach to medicines access for the people of Wales.
