We would welcome your comments on the draft document titled Wales General Ophthalmic Services signed orders formulary and the associated Equality and Health Impact Assessment (EqHIA) form.
Wales General Ophthalmic Services (WGOS) enable all optometrists included in the NHS Wales Combined List (Supplementary Ophthalmic List) to offer NHS-funded sight tests and examinations for urgent eye problems. However, there is currently no provision for optometrists to supply the medicines or devices required for the treatment of those conditions under the NHS. This means patients are required to purchase them themselves or in most cases seek an appointment and prescription from their GP.
From later this year, optometrists will be able to supply the medicines or devices required using a signed order and community pharmacies will be able to supply NHS-funded medicines ordered by optometrists in Wales on a standardised NHS signed order form.
The aim of this document is to agree an approved list of eye preparations (medicines and devices) for inclusion on the WGOS signed orders formulary.
The document and associated EqHIA form and feedback form can be accessed below.
