Why?
Welsh Government considers AWMSG's recommendation and advises whether funding should be made available for the use of this medicine within NHS Wales.
When?
No fixed timeline can be given but it is hoped that we will receive ratification within two weeks of Welsh Government receiving AWMSG's recommendation.
How?
A Final Appraisal Recommendation (FAR) is published our website and confirmation of Welsh Government's ratification of the recommendation is disseminated by email to NHS Wales.
What happens next?
If AWMSG recommends a medicine for use (or recommends it as an option for use) and Welsh Government ratifies this, health boards in Wales have to make the medicine available as soon as is reasonably practicable and within two months of the recommendation being published, in line with
Welsh Government directions.
We review all AWMSG recommendations made after 1 October 2011 every three years or if significant new information becomes available or on the production of any relevant NICE publications. Recommendations may also be reviewed if the actual budget impact is significantly different to that forecast in the submission.
For negative or restricted positive recommendations, applicant companies can resubmit to us at any time with significant new or additional information.
What goes on the AWTTC website when the process is complete?
The listing of your medicine will be updated after ratification with its new status: recommended, recommended with restrictions, or not recommended. Links to the AWMSG Secretariat Assessment Report (ASAR) and the Final Appraisal Recommendation (FAR) will also be included.
